TRAIL WEST
Biography

Trail West are an up and coming ceilidh band from the Isle of Tiree. Consisting of Ian Smith (Accordion/ Midi Bass), Andrew Findlater (Drums/ Vocals) and Alain Campbell (Guitar/ Bagpipes), Trail West offer a refreshing yet traditional West Coast Ceilidh Band sound.

Since forming in 2008, Trail West have been in high demand throughout the UK. The band’s line-up has changed considerably since their formation and has included local Tiree musicians; Steven Cameron, Colin MacKinnon, Sophie Isaacson and John Campbell. Despite the change of line-up, Trail West have strived to maintain their original sound and are often accompanied by guest artists: such as singer, Kenny Pearson from Oban and musicians, Seonaidh MacIntyre from South Uist (Bagpipes/ Small-pipes/ Whistle) and “Wee” Ewen Henderson from Strontian (Accordion/ Bagpipes) who play in a similar style to the ‘original’ Trail West, nevertheless enhance the band’s sound.

To date Trail West have completed three tours of the West of Scotland, performing in places such as Barra, Mull, Islay and Stornoway and at festivals such as the Mull Music Festival, the first ever Tiree Music Festival and Barrafest, enthralling audiences with their entertaining style of West Coast music. Their progress was rewarded when the band were nominated for the ‘Scottish Dance Band of the Year’ category at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards 2010.

Last year, the band performed for the first time at various venues and events throughout Scotland including performances at the Perth Festival of the Arts, Westfest, the Cowal Ceilidh Tent and the Royal National Mod as well as return visits to Sonafest, TMF and the Mull Music Festival!

With many bookings for this year already confirmed and the prospect of a CD release date this summer, 2012 is gearing up to be another exciting year for Trail West!
